The Optical Center of Bay Ridge

The Optical Center Timeline

1981    Dr. Ganz is employed by Charles D. Kelman, MD in Manhattan.  Dr. Kelman was the inventor of the “new” method for performing cataract surgery.

1985     Dr. Ganz begins working at the Ophthalmology Associates of Bay Ridge.  Dr. Ganz develops a contact lens s and low vision practice.  (First day at work we discovered that his wife, Audrey, was pregnant!)

1991    The Optical Center opens in renovated exam rooms at Ophthalmology Associates of Bay Ridge

1992   Audrey takes leave from the NYC Board of Education to work in the Optical Center.

She enrolls in Ophthalmic Dispensing (Opticianry)  course of study at NYC Technical College

1996   Audrey becomes NYS Licensed Optician

1993 to 2003 The Optical Center develops a loyal patient base providing excellent professional optical services with a humanistic philosophy.  Trust and relationships with old and new patients are the norm.

2003    Due to space constraints, a growing practice and a continued commitment to The Optical Center, the Optical Center plans move to 8310 5th Avenue

Fall 2003   The Optical Center as it currently exists is designed to be handicapped accessible.  It sports seats at three dispensing desks comfortably seating patients, guests and families. The larger dispensary gives it the ability to display a wider range of frames from budget eyewear to known or “branded” eyewear and the introduction of more boutique optical lines for the patient who wants to wear a different type of eyewear.  Store colors of yellow/greens and brown reflect the sun/grass and earth to match our philosophy of customer care, comfort and well-being.

May 2004   The Optical Center opens on 5th Avenue with new equipment, and improved diagnostic tools

2008   Optical Lab is redone with the latest in spectacle lens  edging technology.  Pretesting area now includes an instrument from Zeiss Lenses called the I-Profiler assisting us in arriving at the most accurate eye glass prescription determination.

2013   Dr. Stephanie Tin joins the staff and seamlessly continues care for Dr. Ganz’ patients.  Dr. Ganz takes medical leave and continues with Audrey to be passionate about the operation, philosophy and mission of The Optical Center

2014   Wishing us all Peace, Health and Happiness
