An open letter from Dr. Bernard J. Schrader:
I am retiring from my practice and will no longer be able to service your eyecare needs. Fortunately, Dr. Steven Ganz and The Optical Center of Bay Ridge will be taking over my practice. Years ago, Dr. Ganz was an excellent student of mine at the College of Optometry. I believe that the staff of The Optical Center and Dr. Steven Ganz will exceed your expectations. I have personally instructed him as to what has made my practice unique. I am very confident that you will agree that I am leaving you in very competent hands.
The Optical Center of Bay Ridge is located at: 8310 5th Avenue in Bay Ridge (between 83rd and 84th Streets on 5th Avenue). Take the 5th Avenue bus (B63), the 86th Street bus (B1 or B16) or the R train to 86th street and 4th Avenue. The office is 2 blocks from a municipal parking lot as well as handicapped accessible.
Dr. Ganz has practiced in the Bay Ridge area since 1985. In May 2004, The Optical Center moved to their new, modern, and spacious location. He participates in many of the same union, optical, and medical plans that I participated in, including; Medicare, Davis Vision, Eyemed, UFT, VSP, Local 888 and some Medicaid plans including Metroplus. He offers comprehensive optometric care including fitting of soft, hard, astigmatic and bifocal contact lenses, pediatric and geriatric exams, testing for glaucoma, cataracts, and diabetic related eye problems. The autorefractor in the office is used to assist in determining the best possible spectacle and contact lens prescription. He recently added a digital retinal camera to detect retinal diabetic and hypertensive changes.
His frame selection is extensive, ranging from designer to economy lines. NYS licensed opticians will match proper frames to your prescription, fashion, and budgetary needs. English, Spanish, Chinese, and Yiddish are spoken in the office.
Once again, your records have been transferred to Dr. Ganz' office at 8310 5th Avenue. I will be happy to consult with Dr. Ganz if particular concerns regarding your eye care arise.
In closing, let me express my sincerest appreciation for your many years of loyalty, support, and friendship. It has been a pleasure being your Optometrist. So many of you are like family to me. May I take this opportunity to wish you much happiness and good health in future years.
Dr. Bernard Schrader
